About Podernuovo

Umberto and Alvina purchased Podere (farm) Podernuovo in 2002 after a 5 week holiday in the area. The podere is 8 hectares and adjoins the village of Castel del Piano on the slopes of Monte Amiata, the highest mountain in Tuscany.

The property had been derelict for more than 30 years, the houses dilapidated and the land completely overgrown into the canopy of many of the trees. We have since restored the three houses with the main farmhouse, the chestnut drying house (Il Seccatoio) and the original farm homestead (Casa Vecchia) being rebuilt using the original stone, hand made roof tiles and chestnut beams, maintaining the rustic style.

The land has been cleared and a vineyard and an olive grove planted to add to the original chestnut, cherry and walnut trees that are once again producing fruit.

There are two Villas available for holiday rental and guests are provided fresh vegetables in season from the kitchen garden and our own olive oil and wine throughout their stay.

We have two Amiata donkeys – Cosimo and Concetta, a flock of sheep and chickens for fresh eggs.
